Double win for Salvini and TC450 in Greece

World MX3 Championship / European MX2 Championship
Megalopolis, Greece 30.5.2010

Alex SalviniThe 5th MX3 2010 World Championship race and the 4th EMX2 Championship took place on the super hot track in Megalopolis, Greece, where the Husqvarna Cross 2R Team riders fought for victory.

In the MX3 class, Salvini successfully completed his mission to take the red plate from his rival Campano; Alex was determined to win and proved it by winning both heats on his TC450.

In race 1, Campano was the fastest at the start, but Alex did not let him go and kept the pressure on until he was finally able to pass the Spaniard for the win. Once he passed the chequered flag in race one, Alex was already provisional leader of the championship, but with race 2 he ensured his victory thanks to another first place. Salvini got the GP victory and the red plate, with the maximum 50 points achived during the weekend, 4 more than Campano.

“Finally!” exclaimed Alex at the end of the race “in Bulgaria I got the necessary confidence to come here and reach my goal. This week I trained a lot thinking about this moment. Now I need to protect my position as we still have many GPs to go.”

While in the MX3 World Championship the team celebrated the win, the younger riders engaged in the EMX2 championship had a more difficult weekend. Slovenian rider Jernej Irt qualified badly and as a result started way down the pack. The factory rider did not lose his will to win and despite a first turn crash where he collided with other riders and hurt his right knee, Jernej kept on riding until the end when he placed his TC 250 on 11th place. In race 2, again Irt gained place after place until reaching the first riders, but this time the pain from the race one crash was unbearable and Jernej had to slow down and eventually finished 7th.

Teammate Andrea Cervellin also campaigning a TC250 in EMX2, had a better weekend than Irt though. Cervallin fought hard to finish second in race 1 and 4th in race 2, which gave him 3rd overall for the weekend. Not quite the wins the team were hoing for but even with these results Jernej Irt keeps the red plate in the EM2 with 149 points and Andrea Cervellin is now close behind him in second with 144 points. The third placed Bertuzzo has just 112 points.

Next MX3 GP and EMX2 round will take place in Holice, Czech Republic, on June 13th 2010.
